Routine Cleaning
A clean mouth is a healthy mouth. A clean mouth requires a consistent routine to stay clean. Fluoride toothpaste should be used to brush twice a day as well as flossing and then rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash. This routine is essential for keeping the mouth clean and fairly cleared of plaque, but no amount of brushing can eliminate 100% of plaque buildup on the teeth.
To remove the stubborn plaque remaining on the teeth, professional cleaning is needed. Professional cleanings are recommended every six months and are performed by a certified hygienist.
The plaque is scraped from between the teeth and at the gum line with a scaling device, and then a special gritty toothpaste is used to scrub the teeth. The toothpaste is available in many different flavors to choose from, including chocolate and bubble gum.
Extensive flossing follows the scrubbing, and then any remaining debris in the mouth is rinsed out. Dr. Parmer comes in to thoroughly examine the teeth, gums, and mouth to identify any problems that need to be addressed. If everything seems okay, the routine cleaning is over, and you get a small goodie bag with a new toothbrush, a small tube of toothpaste, and a sample of floss.
