Tooth Extraction
When a tooth is damaged beyond repair, an extraction is necessary to prevent pain or infection from spreading. Modern dentistry goals are to keep the mouth as healthy as possible for an entire lifetime. The best option for a healthy jaw is to preserve as many natural teeth as possible, but extraction is unavoidable in some situations.
Parmer Dental strives to perform tooth extractions with minimal-to-no pain. Advances in dental anesthesia have made an extraction as painless as receiving a filling.
Fear of dentists and pulling teeth is a real condition. Knowing ahead of time what is going to happen and that there will be no severe pain can help alleviate that fear. Dr. Parmer keeps you informed of each step as the procedure progresses. While you will hear the sounds of the tooth being pulled, if any pain occurs, let Dr. Parmer know immediately, and more anesthesia can be administered.
The gums around the tooth to be pulled will be injected with anesthetic and allowed to take effect. When fully numb, the tooth is gently rocked back and forth until it releases from the jawbone. Ideally, the tooth will be removed in one piece, but sometimes, it needs to be removed in several pieces.
Dr. Parmer will give after-care instructions for the rest of the day, but most patients can return to work either that afternoon or the next day with no problems.
