Veneers
When movies became all the rage, actors wanted their teeth to look better on film. Dentists were asked to improve their smiles while filming. False fronts (veneers) were glued to the fronts of their teeth, but due to the inferior glue, the veneers were only temporary. Over the years, dental adhesives have advanced to the point where veneers are easily bonded to teeth on a more permanent basis.
A veneer is a thin shell made of tooth-colored material that is placed over a tooth to correct the shape, color, size, or length. One benefit of choosing veneers is that a minimal amount of tooth must be prepared before bonding. A thin layer of enamel is “roughed up” to allow the glue to bond better.
Veneers are available in two different materials. The material that is best for you will depend on where in the mouth the veneer is needed.
Composite resin veneers are the most economical choice. Although they are known to crack easier, their affordability makes them easy to repair. Composite resin veneers are usually applied in just one dental visit even if receiving more than one at a time.
Porcelain veneers are stronger than composite resin and do not stain as easily.
